BEAVERS WIN SETS UP A CIVIL WAR FOR ALL TIME

11-22-2009 - On Saturday the Beavers went into cold and windy Pullman Washington and ran all over the depleted Cougars of Washington State. Final score Beavers 42, Cougars 10.

Quizz Rodgers tied a OSU single season rushing TD record with his 19th TD of the season tieing him with Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson. Rodgers also rushed for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 carries moving him into second place in the PAC-10 in rushing with 1313 yards.

Sean Canfield had another solid game going 22 of 29 for 231 yards and 2 touchdowns. Canfield leads the PAC-10 in yards per game (254.3), Pass Efficiency (147.6), completion percentage (70.3%), total yards (2797) and TD passes (19).

James Rodgers caught 6 balls for only 33 yards at WSU, but the older Rodgers brother held onto his PAC-10 lead in receptions per game (7.0), Receiving Yards per Game (78.6), All Purpose Yards per Game (173.6).

Damola Adeniji led the Beavers in Pullman with 5 catches for 89 yards and 1 touchdown. Tight End Joe Halahuni added 44 yards and 1 Touchdown.

The win moves the Beavers to 8-3 (7-2) and in sole possession of second place in the PAC-10 thanks to loses by Stanford and Arizona on Saturday. What this means is that for the first time in 113 years of Oregon State vs Oregon Football. The winner of the Civil War will be going to the Rose Bowl. Oregon is currently in first place with a record of 9-2 (7-1). Should the Beavers, who are currently 10 point underdogs for the Civil War, win the game at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. It will be the first Rose Bowl appearance for the Beavers since the Jan. 1 1965.

This is the second year in a row that the Beavers have held their destiny in their own hands going into the Civil War. Last year the Beavers entered the Civil War as the favorites and with a Rose Bowl berth in hand with a victory over the Ducks. But it was not to be as the Ducks won the game and left a bad taste in many Beavers mouths after the game.

Last year the Beavers were the team with the target on their backs and the whole nation talking about them. This year it is the Ducks who have the spotlight and the talk. After an opening season loss to Boise State was made even worse by some post game punching by a Duck player. The Ducks have won 9 of 10 games including an exciting overtime thriller in Tucson on Saturday night that put the Ducks in the drivers seat for the Rose Bowl.

The Beavers in the mean time have been flying somewhat under the Radar and have quietly put a run together themselves winning 6 of their last 7 games and have somewhat quietly put themselves into position to go to the Rose Bowl once again with one more win this season. Just one more win. But the real pressure this year is on the Ducks. They are the favorites, they are at home, and they are the team the nation is watching. Meanwhile, the Beavers players are preparing, they are studying film, they are going to work to get better everyday they put a foot on a football field. That is their goal. Through humility, integrity, effort and belief in one another, a group of individuals can come together as a team to accomplish what one man may see as impossible.

In Eleven days, two different teams will step onto a field with the same dream and play a game that will have lifelong meaning to many who see it. Only one team can walk off the field that day and be a champion. IT'S OUR TIME! LET'S GO GET IT. GO BEAVERS!
