Beavers Dominate the Sun Devils 10-5-2009 - OK well first off I want to somewhat appologise for my temper tantrums during the game on twitter. I was going off on the Beavers in the second half. Most of it was beer induced and some of it was somewhat justified. But in the end the Beavers won the game and that is what counts. I was gone all day Saturday coaching my daughters softball team and when I finally got home and turned the game on it was 14-3 Beavers. From what I understand James Rodgers had some good returns and several other Beavers contributed to the early success. But it was turnovers that cost ASU early and the Beavers turned those into points. A few plays after I turned the game on Canfield hit James Rodgers wide open in the end zone and I watched in horror as he bobbled the ball and then eventually secured it for the TD. If it wasn't such a bad catch it would have been a great catch. So I relaxed, had some beer and got ready to enjoy the Beavers blowing out ASU in the second half. Well, that didn't happen did it. I almost turned the game off thinking that they were doing so well before I turned it on that I was jinxing them by watching. ASU took the second half and went 77 yards in 10 plays for the score. What happened to the defense? The next three Beaver possessions did nothing and ASU seemed to be moving the ball but could not get any points until their last drive of the game which seemed to take forever. 22 plays, 94 yards, 6 minutes 49 seconds off the clock. I guess the Beaver defense did a good job in the fact that it took them so long to score that they used up the whole clock and had no time left to get any more points. Would have liked to seen the Beaver defense hold them on that last drive and not let them score. Beaver defenses of the past would not have let that happen. That in itself is a story of this team so far this year. Playing well, just not well enough. In the end the Beavers scored again and all was right with the world again. The Beavers broke their second longest streak in the conference by defeating ASU at home for the first time in 40 years. The Beavers had lost the previous 16 games against ASU in Tempe.
