The Washington State Cougars Come to Corvallis Today

10-11-2008 - OK I am back in the saddle again and getting ready to head to the game with my wife (A Cougar Alum). Waiting for the coffee to brew so that my brain will engage enough to get this done. OK, I will give you the 30 second pregame breakdown. Beavers win by 42 points over the Cougars. How is that for a prediction? In predictions this year I am 3-2 so far. Missed the USC game, had USC winning that game and also (would have) missed the Utah game. I had the Beavers winning that game by 10 if I had time to write it down. Should have won by 8 but that is another story.

I look for this game to be a route by the Beavers. I have got to believe that the Beavers are extremely pissed off after blowing the lead late at Utah and are coming home to make a statement today. The Beavers also have a chance today to give Mike Riley his 50th career win as Oregon States head coach at home and I don't think the defense who was embarassed late last week will let that happen again.

The Cougars strength on defense is in the passing game so look for the Beavers to pound the ball with Quizz up the middle and James around the end. That should spread the dense out and allow Moevao to stretch it down the field with the pass. I also look for Riley to get his kicker some chances if the score is big to help him buld some confidence. The team will need a reliable field goal kicker down the stretch to win some games. For the last 10 years the Beavers have been lucky to have some of the best kickers in the country playing for us and now we are a little spoiled and expect all to perform at the same level. Although only making 4 of 9 attempts is not PAC-10 caliber kicking. A big missed field goal in the Utah game could have been the difference in that game. Justin Kahut has got to get his confidence going as we will need him for sure.

The Beavers dominate the stats in every key offensive category and trail the Cougars in a few categories but only by a little bit. So the Beavers look to really dominate this game at all levels. The Cougars have given up 60 points twice this season already I don't see any reason for the Beavers to do much less. It is always a little scarey when a team like this with a new coach and a new system comes into town. You never know when a team will begin to understand the system and coach and bring it all together. I do not believe that will happen today.

I look for Quizz to run for 150+ yards and 4 TD's today. Also look for Moevao to throw for 3 touchdowns today. Once the game gets out of hand I see Riley playing some backups especially at QB to get them some time.

BEAVERS CRUSH THE COUGARS AND THE GAME IS OVER BY HALFTIME.
