BFS Current Story
10-12-2008 - I was only off by ten points in my pregame prediction of a 56-14 Beaver win over Washington State. The Beavers came out in the second half Saturday night and put 42 points on the Cougars and scored in many ways. Some of the more memorable scores were Sammy streaking down the Beavers sideline 30 yards for a score. Morales leaping over a Cougar DB in the end zone for a 20 yard score. James Rodgers end around for 17 yards and a touchdown. Ryan McCants rushing for 53 yards on 8 carries and a score. Jeremy Francis rushing for 48 on 7 carries and a score. Damola Adeniji (80), a JC transfer from North Eugene, blocking a punt and returning it for a touchdown then later catching a perfectly thrown ball from, Yes, Sean Canfield for a 39 yard touchdown catch. Oh ya, Quizz had a good day rushing for 168 yards on 23carries and a touchdown. Sammy Stroughter had 6 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. All in all 5 Beaver running backs and 3 wide receivers scored touchdowns on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis as the Beavers crushed the Cougars 66-13 in front of 45629 fans. The 66 points by the Beavers was 1 point shy of the tieing the all time record for points in a game of 67 points scored against Northern Illinois in 1996. The 66 points sets record for points scored against a current PAC-10 team. The win was also Mike Rileys 50th career win as Oregon States head coach. Congrats Mike! The Beavers are now 3-3 overall and 2-1 in the PAC-10. The Beavers scored on 3 of their first 4 possessions, but also threw 4 interceptions in their first 8 possessions. Moevao was a little wild in the first half with 4 int's. One of those cost the Beavers a touchdown and two back to back interceptions gave the Cougars their only 2 scores of the game. Prior to the game Moevao had thrown 10 touchdown passes and only 4 interceptions. After Saturdays game Moevao now has 12 TD's and 8 INT's. In the second half the Beavers scored a touchdown on every possession of the half, scoring 42 second half points on 6 straight drives. If you include the field goal to end the first half the Beavers scored on 7 consecutive possessions in the game. The Cougars lost another Quarterback to injurt during the game. Lobbestael suffered a torm MCL and ACL during the game forcing the Cougars to go to their forth string quarterback, freshman Dan Wagner. The Cougars who are now missing 3 starting quarterbacks and 2 starting running back are in bad shape for the rest of the season. Washington State held open tryouts for quarterback last week and added Peter Roberts as their scout team quarterback. He is 6'1" and was a three year letter winner at Woodinville High School. BY THE NUMBERS
The Beavers now head to Seattle to face the Washington Huskies for a 4pm kickoff that will be televised on the Versus Network. This is another good opportunity for the Beavers to get a much needed win and move one game closer to bowl eledgability. The Beavers remaining schedule is favorable with the most difficult teams having to come into Reser Stadium. If the Beavers could some how manage to run the table the rest of the way they would get a berth in the Rose Bowl even if USC also wins out because the Beavers beat USC in Corballis and would have the tie breaker. So keep your fingers crossed that the Beavers can keep playing well and improving each week. GO BEAVERS! BFS |
