Beavers Defeat Huskies 34-13 for 5th Win in a Row

10-18-2008 - Wow, good game by the Beavers. Those runs by James Rodgers were something to watch. I knew he was fast but he just pulled away from the Husky defenders on all three of those scores. Not a bad stat, 110 yards rushing on 3 carries. Just imagine how good the two Rodgers brothers can be a couple years from now. This team is very young on is really starting to come together. If they keep this up, their only limitation is their ability to perform to the best of their ability. I see some very good years of football coming up including this year.

If you were at the Husky game in Seattle and have photos you would like to share, please email them to me.

The Oregon State Beavers football team and the Rodgers Brothers defeated the Washington Huskies 34-13 on Saturday Afternoon at Husky Stadium. The Rodgers Brothers scored 4 times with the older brother James outscoring his younger brother on this day. James Rodgers carried the ball 3 times for 110 yards rushing and also caught 3 passes for 53 yards on the day in scoring 3 touchdowns.

Quizz Rodgers was held in check for most of the day but managed a workman like 98 yards on 20 carries. Several times just missing the big breakaway run that would have given him the big yardage everyone expected.

But while the Huskies had their eyes on Quizz it was James who stole the show scoring on runs of 52 yards and 55 yards and also catching a screen pass for a score of 33 yards.

Moevao had one of his most efficient days passing going 18 of 22 for 191 yards and no interceptions. That's a completion percentage of over .800. Not a bad day at all.

It was fun to see the ground game come out and make the big play. Those Rodgers brothers sure can run the ball. Morales is also becoming a great receiver and is taking a lot of pressure and attention away from Stroughter and James Rodgers. Defenses now must plan for three different receivers who can hurt you in many different ways. That will make it very interesting the rest of the season.

Speaking of that, as i sit here writing I am watching the Cal / Arizona game. With Arizona winning tonight and Stanford losing this afternoon, that moves the Beavers into a tie for first and they currently have the tie breaker over USC. If both USC and the Beavers manage to win out that would put the Beavers in the Rose Bowl. But we have 6 weeks and 5 games to play to get to that point. But considering where we were just a few short weeks ago it is very exciting to think we are in this position now.

The Beavers dominated the stats as was expected. The only categories that the Huskies to lead in were kicking and passing offense. The passing stat is a little surprising but when you consider that the Beavers shut down the runnng game of the Huskies that was all they had left to do was pass. That and the Beavers moved the ball on the ground very well and the passing game was not needed as much as in previous games.

All in all a great win for the Beavers. Now the Beavers get a week off to prepare for Arizona State at Reser on Nov. 1st. Should be a great game. Wear your orange with pride.

GO BEAVERS!
