12-7-2008 - Well it's official, the Oregon State Beavers will once again have to travel to the beautiful city of El Paso, Texas to play in the 75th addition of the Sun Bowl. Wow!?! I am so excited. What a great opportunity for Beaver fans and players to enjoy another bowl game. NOT!! For the third year in a row, the Beavers have somehow qualified for the third place bowl in the PAC-10. Two years ago the Beavers made their first trip to El Paso and won an exciting game in the final seconds over Missouri 39-38 with a 2 point conversion to win the game. Last year the Beavers were spared the agony of having to once again travel to the far ends of the earth to play in this wasteland of a bowl game because the Sun Bowl has a no repeat clause. Probably a good idea by them as not a single person would want to go to that dirty little town two years in a row. So the Beavers got the Emerald Bowl instead and a much easier trip to San Francisco. But this year, thanks to the Ducks (I hate them more and more everyday) the Beavers are heading back to El Pisso. This time the Beavers will be playing 18th ranked Pittsburgh. Oregon State last faced Pittsburgh in the 2002 Insight Bowl and lost 38-13 to the Panthers and Coach Wannstedt. This years version of the Panthers is very similar to Oregon State from an offensive and defensive statistical overview and should make for a very close and exciting game once again in the Texas sun. I will have more in the game and the Beavers chances of coming home with their fifth straight bowl victory in a couple weeks. Until then I have to figure out whether it is worth my time and money to make this very long trip to West Texas. San Diego or Pasadena would have been a much easier choice for me. Look for an article later this week on why the Sun Bowl should be removed as a PAC-10 bowl game. BFS |
