BFS Current Story
9-3-2007 Ok I have been off on vacation since the lose at Stanford and then trying to catch up on work. It has taken me all week to get this finished and I still have to do my Penn State Pre-game before the kickoff. Once the depression of losing to Stanford in our 2008 season opener wore off. It was difficult to sit down and put into words my feelings over the loss until much later then normal. I still don't really have a firm grasp on what happened during that game. If you read my blog I was doing updates at the end of each quarter but when the twightlight zone hit in the third quarter I could no longer put fingers to keyboard. Personally I blame my paster who came down to watch the end of the game with me right after we kicked the field goal at the start of the third quarter. After that, everything seemed to go into some weird kind of slow motion for me like I was dreaming or something. Frankly my biggest concern after the game was completely different from what I observed at the start of the game. By games end I was really concerned about our defense. The nations top rushing defense in 2007 gave up 210 rushing yards on 48 carries. That's 4.4 yards per carry! The pass defense only gave up 91 yards but the way Stanford was rushing the ball they did not need to throw much and that is good for Stanford because Pritchard cannot throw the ball very well. The Beavers defense had only two sacks in the game and those came in the first quarter. So the Beavers had better come up with some kind of solution on defense before #19 Penn State on Saturday or it will be another long day. The offense was surprising. With the group of receivers we have the offense could be very productive if our quarterbacks can get the ball on target down field. We had 490 total yards of offense to Stanfords 301 yards and lost giving up 36 points. The rushing game was absent and McCants was uninspiring carrying for only 11 yards and a 2.8 average. The bright spot was Jacquizz Rodgers who made some big league moves in gaining 54 yards on 14 carries. This 2008 team has a lot of potential and the outcome of this 2008 season will be determined by how soon they can come together to realize their potential. With the way the early schedule plays out it had better be real soon. BY THE NUMBERS
