BFS Current Story I Went to a Football Game and I Fight Broke Out Nov. 12,2007 First things first. I was extremely proud of Beaver Nation at the game Saturday night. The crowd was great and they were very loud. That was by far the best crowd of the year for noise level. Games are a blast when the crowd is into the game and very loud like they were on Saturday. Perhaps it was because it was a night game and people had all day to drink before the game. Whatever the reason, it was great to finally have the stadium full and loud for a home game, to bad it had to be the last one of the year. But we are bowl elegible now and need to get the Cougars next week in Pullman to move up in the bowl picture. We all wish to be in the Rose Bowl but for the team to be in bowl games year in and year out is of great benefit to the team and players and will only make us better every year. The game itself was both great and terrible at the same time. The Beavers jumped on the Huskies early to get the lead, I missed the best parts of the game trying to get coffee to keep my hands warm. Funny, I did not realize or just forgot that the TV's at the concession stands are on a delay. I was standing in line and heard a big cheer. But when I looked at the TV nothing was happening. The first cheer I missed was the blocked punt for a touchdown. RATS! The second thing I missed was the hit on Locker. I was making my way back to my seats when it happened and did not see it through the crowd. It was a scary moment and one I don't like to see at games. Sure I love the big hits like the one Moevao laid on the defensive end of Washington. That was a thing of beauty. But I never like to see a play get hurt like that. Being a parent of a child who has had a sever concussion and have sat in the hospital waiting for word on their condition. That is something I would not wish on any person or player. My prayers go out to Locker for a speedy recovery. After the hit on Locker everything went down hill from there. The Huskies were pissed and it was very poor sportsmanship of them to start hitting Bernard in the face as he lay on the bottom of the pile but that was only the beginning. Punches were thrown for most of the rest of the game and the officials lost control of this game early and never got control back regardless of how many personnal fouls they handed out. The Beavers got three players ejected from the game which will hurt us at Pullman because those players will have to miss the first half of the next game. In all the kaos of the game the Huskies almost came from 19 points down to win the game on to long touchdown passes and then a blown call by the officials with 3 minutes to go on a touchdown by Bernard that was ruled a fumble and the Huskies picking the ball up and running it to the 35 of OSU. The play was never reviewed by the officials and the Huskies has a chance to win but the Beavers defense came through as the crowd booed for the entire time the Huskies had the ball. It was by far the strangest game I have been to in a long time if ever. Four players tossed, player taken to the hospital, blown calls. Wow what a mess of a game, but great at the same time. BY THE NUMBERS
The Beavers running game continues to be the force behind the offense and Bernard once again had a great game rushing for 146 yards. If he continues to run like this for the next two games we will have a very good chance to win both games. However, the passing game was absent once again. Although we did throw deep a couple times which is very good to see. But we need to get more production out of the passing game to be successful on the road. For the last two games we have only had 194 yards total in passing yards. Thats 97 yards per game. That sucks! The Beavers are averaging 200 yards per game passing and that just won't get the job done. One bright spot continues to be the play of Alexis Serna. Five for five on field goals and averaged 37 yards per punt. If it were not for a couple bad punts in the third quarter when things were getting really crazy, he would have averaged over 40 yards per punt for the third week in a row. Good Job Alexis! I hope Mike Riley can get the Beavers ready for the Cougars on saturday. Pullman is a tough place to win and the Beavers will be short handed once again with injuries and players on suspension. But more on that later. GO BEAVERS! BFS |
