BEAVERS TO PLAY IN THE EMERALD BOWL?

The Beavers will play in the Emerald Bowl on December 28th at AT&T Park in San Franscisco California. The Beavers (6-3,8-4) will play the University of Maryland Tarapins (3-5,6-6) of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Beavers who finished third in the PAC-10 conference fell victim to the system and agreements in being placed in the Emerald Bowl. The Beavers finished 3rd in the PAC-10 in 2006 as well and attended the Sun Bowl in El Paso Texas. This year by finishing 3rd once again it meant a return trip to the Sun Bowl unless other factors took place.

Those other factors would be ASU making it into the Fiesta Bowl thus allowing the Beavers to move up to the Holiday Bowl. But that did not happen and the Beavers were in line for the Sun Bowl. But the Sun Bowl has a no repeat clause and so refused to take the Beavers and took the 4th place Ducks of Oregon instead. That moved the Beavers down to the Emerald Bowl which is assigned to the 4th place team in the PAC-10.

In my opinion that is just fine with me. El Paso is a long trip and I can drive to San Francisco. It also allows the Beavers to attend a bowl that they have not been to before. San Fran. is a great city and there will be lots to do even if the bowl festivities are less then attractive.

I will have more on the matchup at a later date but I am looking forward to another great bowl game experience.
