BFS Current Story

My Oh My! I am not sure how to express my feelings after that game. During the 2006 season the Beavers had 4 games that went down to the last play of the game. USC, Oregon, Hawaii and Missouri. I thought then that we had probably used up our share of luck in those 4 games, but I guess that luck is something that recharges itself where heart and desire are present.

For the second year in a row, the Beavers shock the nation by upsetting a top three team, this time on the road. The Beavers upset #2 ranked Cal Bears at Cal 31-28 with an amazing 4 play goal line stand by the defense and a guttsy 4th and goal from the 1 yard line try for a score. It came down to the final play of the game and the Beavers held on with a little luck and some outstanding play to upset the Cal Bears and once again shock the college football world.

The Beavers 2007 Victory over the #2 ranked Cal Bears at Berkley will probably not rank as one of my top ten games of all times, but it sure has a place at #11 and it will be remembered by all Beaver fans who were smart enough to watch or listen ot the game.

I have noticed that even with the Beavers victory over Cal, the Beavers are getting little to no respect among the media. ESPN's highlights of the game were almost entirely of Cal scores and big plays with little coverage of anything the Beavers did. This game will be remembered by many as the one "CAL LOST" and not the game the "BEAVERS WON" by going into the #2 team in nations home field and played them toe to toe for 60 minutes and came out on top. It will be remembered as the game a redshirt freshman quarterback for Cal failed to throw the ball away at the end of the game in order to secure the tie and got sacked. It won't be remembered as the game that a beleaguered sophmore quarterback that was leading the nation in interceptions, went into the #2 team in the nations home field and threw no picks and led his team to victory and several big scoring drives.

These simple facts above are a shame because a group of young men who had been struggliing and who had been ridiculed by the media and fans alike, came together and overcame the odds to win the game nobody (except me) thought they could win.

BY THE NUMBERS

Sean Canfield had his best game as a Beaver, 18 of 33 for 186 yards with no interceptions. Canfield is completing 58.4% of his attempts for the season. Evenson Bernard had another good game carrying the ball 33 times for 110 yards bringing his season total to 752 yards and 107.4 yards per game.

In looking at the numbers from the game it is very apparent that the game was very even throughout. The three areas that I discussed in my pregame report came to pass. Canfield did not throw a single interception, special teams won the day with the punting and kick coverage and the Beavers secondary played well enough for most of the game to hold the Cal Bears speedy receivers in check.

Now with a week off to get ready for a home game with Stanford, the Beavers have time to heal and work on the things they learned about themselves from the Cal game. We can only hope that this team will find a way to get it done in the last 5 games like the 2006 team did and once again bring a bowl victory to Oregon State.

FINAL SCORE

OSU 31 CAL 28
