BFS Current Story Beavers Men's Basketball Program Gets Win, But Continues to Struggle 11/24/2007 The Oregon State Men's Basketball program played host to Idaho State on Friday night and had to come from behind in the second half to pull out a 56-41 victory. The Beavers once again suffered from the same issues that have plaqued them the last 4 years. The Beavers are now 2-2 on the season with their next game vs the University of Portland on Sunday at Gill. When you look at the team you see many quality players who appear to be capible athletes who can compete in the PAC-10 conference. However what you see on the court and in games is the same thing we have been seeing the last 4 seasons under coach Jay John. The two things that seems to come up after almost every game will be a lack of intensity on the court and long spans of time with no offense. In the game the other day the Beavers went 8+ minutes and did not score a basket. Shooting percentages are poor, especially from the Free Throw Line. In my opinion these things are symtomatic of the coaching staff and not the players. It has been 4 years now and we are still seeing the same issues brought up after every game. Intensity and Shooting. Its time for something to change. Either Jay John needs to get help in figuring out how to overcome these issues and get his players to play with intensity every night and shoot the ball better or Coach Johns Term of Service at Oregon State needs to be ended. Its one thing to have a bad season because of injuries or other things once in a while, but to continually have season where the same two issues keep coming up game after game is the fault of a coaching staff that is not doing the right things to correct the problem. Below are the PAC-10 Stats for the Beavers and the Leader in each category. Oregon State ranks 4th in two areas and is no higher then 6th in any other category. No wonder we cannot win. BY THE NUMBERS
