BFS Current Stories Hello Beaver Fans, OK, OK, I know I am late but I have an excuse. The dog ate my game analysis, my wife made me do yard work, I just plain forgot? The fact is that I was in so much shock from last week and in so much worry over this weekend that I totally put it off and did not realize it till just now. My brother is heading down to the game and I am just a little bit jealous because I have always wanted to go to a game at Stanford. But I fear that until my kids are older and at least one or two of them are out of the house I won’t be able to get away for such a weekend. I am still working on getting the website updated with all the archived stories from years past online for those who want to go back and reminisce. I also hope to have sounds from the civil war online after the game. So if you see a guy holding up his pda at the game, that will probably be me. On To The Game The Beavers suffered the let down last week at UCLA that everyone hoped they would not have the week before vs. ASU. Matt Moore had a bad game at the wrong time, fumbling the ball 3 times that basically was the difference in the game. This week, the Beavers travel to last place Stanford for what I call a must win game. For the Beavers to be bowl eligible they have to get that 7th win of the season. The last two games of the season against Oregon and Hawaii are not sure things by any means. So it is imperative that the Beavers get the win at Stanford today to take some of the pressure off and allow them to play more relaxed for the last two games. There is still hope that they can win out to finish the season 9-4 and get into a good bowl game but it has to start today. The Beavers are tied for third in conference and missed a golden opportunity last weekend to move into third by themselves. With a win today the Beavers will remain in third. A poor performance today at Stanford and a loss will put them into at least a five way tie for forth. By The Numbers On paper this game should be a lock for a win. But with the up and down Beavers you never know which team will show up. Stanford ranks last in all offensive categories in the PAC-10 and ranks last in all defensive categories with one exception. Stanford is #2 in the PAC-10 in pass defense. That number could be a result of other factors. Stanford’s rushing defense is so bad that teams run the ball against them and don’t pass a much so the pass defense stats are slanted to reflect a better pass defense then they actually have. Stanford’s pass defense only has 7 interceptions and is allowing a 62% completion percentage by opposing quarterbacks. It is difficult to find a category that Stanford is not last in or at least above the bottom 2 or 3 in. They are last in total offense, last in total defense, last in turnover margin, last in return yardage, last in first downs, last in first downs given up, last in sacks, last in sacks against. And that is only the ones I picked out. Stanford is 3 for 3 for onside kick successes. The Beavers on the other hand rank in the top 4 or 5 in most conference statistics and are second in conference in sacks with 33 and first in time of possession. The Bottom Line Basically it comes down to this. If the Beavers go in today and play with emotion and fire, don’t make mistakes and turn the ball over. The Beavers should easily win this game by 20 or more points. Taking care of the ball, Solid tackling on defense and smart decision making are the keys to victory today. Just don’t beat yourself. Final Score OSU 44 – Stanford 14 BFS |
