IT IS TIME!

Finally it is time. The long winter, spring, summer slumber is over. The weather is starting to get a little colder at night, the days are not quite as hot, and the kids are returning to school.

Throughout the winter, there was the excitement of Beaver Basketball to keep us orange blooded fans returning to campus. Then came spring. Beaver Baseball, Beaver Softball kept us entertained as the women's softball program came within one game of going to the college world series. Spring football was in the air. We went down to watch a practice or to run in the 10K fun run. We delighted in the spring game as football returned for a short time to Reser Stadium. But then it was gone.

The long summer was here. A vortex of time in the year were college sports fans must sit and patiently await the coming of fall. We pass the time by involving ourselves in other activities. We coach youth baseball or softball teams. We play sports, stay active, go camping, and take trips to far away places. But all the while one topic is in the back of our mind. One thing unites us with a common question. How will we do.

The topics around the summer campfire turn toward the fall. The camping chairs we take on trips or to our children's sporting events reflect where our thoughts our. License plates, stickers in the windows, flags in front of our houses, the hats we wear, the shirts we play in, show our pride and the internal yearning for the return of fall.

We love other sports too. Major League Baseball is my first love. We also love to play golf or baseball, go hiking or push ourselves in the Hood to Coast. We enjoy watching our children compete with hopes that possibly somehow, someday they may wear the black and orange. We love to do many different things but nothing can rival the anticipation of the return of fall.

So now, summer is ending and we all know what that means…….. It's time for some FOOTBALL! Yes it is that time again. College Football and Beaver Football have returned to our lives. The hopes and dreams of Beaver Fans across the nation are now finally riveted on Corvallis Oregon once again as the Beavers open the 2003 Football season this Thursday.

I love this time of the year. Nothing stirs me more then the coming of football season. Even the rights of spring when baseball starts up cannot compare to how I feel when the time has come to watch Beaver football.
