BFS Story Archive BEAVERS LOSS BIG (AGAIN) AT USC 28-52 DESPITE OVER 500 YARDS OF OFFENSE Well another trip to the beautiful confines of southern California are over and once again, for the 20th time in the last 43 years, the Beavers failed to win at USC. I cannot decide which team I hate the most. I think the correct answer is USC. They are a great program but they are full themselves and the songs they play truly drive a person nuts. When the star receiver for USC makes a spectacular catch in the end zone and then after the game says "I could have used both hands, I was just having fun". That is to much to take. But the Beavers lost this game the same way they have lost all the other games they could have won all season long. Interceptions, Special Teams, Offensive Line play and Penalties. Although analysts says that the OSU line played a good game. I tend to disagree. The line played as well as USC let them. USC was in Anderson's face all day long and Jackson could only manage 62 yards on 22 carries. USC sacked Anderson 4 times and knocked him down so many times that he must be very sore today. And as for special teams. They sucked. USC blocked four, count'em four OSU kicks. Two punts in a row and two field goal attempts. That along with poor tackling on both offense and defense and there you have it. We gave what little chance we had to win the biggest game of the year and perhaps of the last 30 years, with poor play at key moments of the game. How does someone intercept a deep pass down field and then return it 65 yards for a touchdown. Can't anyone on offense tackle. How many times did USC just blow by the Beavers like they were standing still. The game for me was like riding a roller coaster. One minute I am up screaming at the TV as the Beavers make a big play and have a chance to make a game of it or even tie the game. The next minute I am watching as defenders miss tackles, make dumb plays or do let USC run right by them. The offense looked great except for the running game and the 4 interceptions. I think that is enough venting for now. As for the Beavers, Riley needs to get these players focused and paying attention. They had better work hard from now until the bowl game because New Mexico is no push over. They are 8-4 and won 7 of their last 8 games. They also beat UTAH at Utah. Utah won the conference and also beat both Cal. and Oregon at Utah this year. New Mexico is also coached by former Oregon State Defensive Coordinator Rocky Long who put together some great defenses at Oregon State. Defenses good enough to beat the Ducks twice while he was here. This season is a very disappointing season for me. The Beavers had all the talent to go 9-3 or 10-2 this season with the personnel they have. A 7-5 season is a real let down. If the Beavers go to Las Vegas and lose this game, this team may be the biggest let down in school history. With players like Jackson, Newson, Hass, Euhus and yes Anderson. This team should have contended for the PAC-10 title right down to the last game of the season. Only a bowl win will help to bring a little shine back to a team and a season that could have been much better then it ended up. GO BEAVERS!
