BFS Story Archive GAME 6 POSTGAME - CAL BEARS Hello Beaver Fans! Well that was an interesting weekend. Understand that a real weekend off with nothing to do but relax is few and far between for me and my family. I run a business, I am a youth softball coach and the coordinator of the youth softball program in this area. I have three kids a wife and two dogs. Between work, the kids, coaching, the dogs, the wife's to do lists, church and many other things, it is hard to get away. Well last weekend we decided to take the trailer up into the mountains outside of Eugene Oregon to the Belknap Hot Springs. Did I mention that it was outside Eugene (Duck Country)? It was interesting driving through the Eugene - Springfield area with all the Beaver Flags and Car Magnets adorning my car and trailer. But the looks only got worse as we pulled into the Resort that is owned by rabid Duck Fans. The Duck game was on TV in the lobby of the lodge and the whole place was decked out in Duck colors with all the fans in Duck Green watching the game. I decided that retreat was the better part for the moment and went to the campsite for dinner and family time. Well curiosity got the better of me and I went down to the lodge later with a friend who was there with us to check out the score of the game. Of course I was wearing full Beaver orange with OSU hat. The looks I got when I walked in were chilling. I tried to make polite conversation after realizing that the Ducks were losing late in the fourth quarter. You know, "What happen to the Ducks", " I never thought Utah could beat the Ducks", "They will bounce back". While all the time my brain is going "GO UTAH!!!" There were many a high five back at camp when we returned to report the score of the game. The next day, Beaver Game Day, the flags were flying and so were the looks of Duck fans. We took the family up the river for a short hike to look at some water falls and the McKenzie River. We returned later in the after noon and I as yet had avoided turning on the game to hear what was happening. Then the people in the campsite next to us told us the score at the start of the fourth quarter so I just had to listen to the end of the game. The cheers from our site echoed throughout the campground while the Duckies were silent. From all accounts of the game and from the replays that I have seem, the Beavers really got the engine going in the right direction on Saturday. Derek Anderson had a solid game passing the ball going 18 of 27 for 224 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Steven Jackson was the big story of the game as for the second year in a row he rushes for over 200 yards (227 yards on 35 carries) against CAL. For the first time in four games James Newson did not have over 100 receiving but the ball was well distributed as Anderson hit 6 different receivers in the game. The Beavers dominated the game statistically as well winning most of the major offensive and defensive stats. The downside to the game was once again penalties as the Beavers rack up over 150 yards on 13 penalties. With the win the Beavers are now tied for first place in the conference with Washington State. The Beavers have a buy this weekend and get ready to face Washington at Corvallis next week. In the next two games the Beavers defense will be really tested against two of the top three passing quarterbacks in the conference. As of this week the top three QB's in passing yardage are Derek Anderson, Matt Kegel and Cody Pickett. I believe that the Beavers can and will beat the Huskies in Corvallis. If that happens then that will set up a very big game in Pullman in two weeks. The season is looking better and so are the Beavers. Lets all hope the current trend continues until December 6th. Then we could all be looking forward to warm weather in January. GO BEAVERS!
