2002 Football OSU vs UNLV BEAVERS ROUTE UNLV 47-17 As all of you probably know already, our Beavers game out and dismantled the walking wounded (Running Rebels) of UNLV last Saturday 47-17. The game was not as close as the score shows. The Beavers came out strong and as my tape reply shows right at this moment the Beavers lead 37-0 with 1:41 to go in the first half. The defense gave up a quick touchdown, their first of the the season to the Rebels before the half ended making the score 37-7 at halftime. The second half was an opportunity for the second, third and forth string players to get lots of playing time as Anderson sat down late in the 3rd quarter for Adam Rothenfluh. The Beavers used four different running backs in the game and went through most of the roster. Derek Anderson was 20 of 26 passes for 356 yards. His five TD passes tied the mark set by Erik Wilhelm against Akron in 1987. James Newson had 7 catches for 167 yards for the Beavers. The only area of weakness in the game for the Beavers was in the running game as the Beavers could only manage 65 yards rushing on 42 carries. The passing game was on fire, completeing passes to eight different receivers for a total of 396 yards. Penalties were better as the Beavers committed only 8 for 62 yards. Eric Manning was ejected from the game for throwing a punch but will not miss the next game as he was provoked in the mind of the official. All in all it was a great performance by the Beavers. Next up this weekend in Corvallis is the Bulldogs of Fresno State. I don't think there will be much need to get the players motivated for this game.
POST GAME BY THE NUMBERS
Good Job Beavs! See you at home next weekend.
