2002 Football OSU vs Temple

BEAVERS GO ON THE ROAD IN A BIG WAY AND COME HOME WITH A BIG WIN!!

The Beavers went into Philadelphia and liberated a victory from a stubborn Temple team that finally gave in to a Beaver defense that completely dominated the Owls. The Beavers defense gave up only a field goal for the second game in a row and only 222 total offense.

The Beavers won the game 35-3 as the Owls defense played good for most of the game but was finally worn down by the relentless attack of the Beavers. After a 0-0 first quarter the Beavers put together along scoring drive to take a 7-0 lead and then ran the 2 minute offense to perfection, putting together a 10 play, 66 yard drive in 56 seconds for the score with just 8 seconds left in the first half.

In the second half the Beavers defense continued to bend but not break, giving up a field goal to Temple and then the offense came right back and scored again on a 12-play, 80-yard drive capped by Anderson's 14-yard TD pass to Cole Clasen for a 21-3 lead late in the third.

The Beavers put the game away for good in the fourth with a 7-yard TD pass to Shawn Kintner with 1:37 left that made it 28-3, and Ryan Kanekeberg recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD on the ensuing kickoff to provide the final margin.

The Beaver receivers dropped many passes that could have put the game away much earlier. Derek Anderson had another great game going 33-51 with no interceptions for 286 yards. Steven Jackson went over 100 yards again, rushing for 117 yards on 25 carries. Anderson spread the ball around well, completing passes to 9 different receivers.

The Beavers defense improved upon the turnover margin by getting 4 turnovers today to go with the 7 they got last week. The Beavers once again had problems in the penalty area with 11 penalties for 128 yards. That makes almost 300 yards in penalties in just two games.

The bottom line is the Beavers did what they had to do to win the game. When all the talking is over it comes down to wins and losses. The Beavers now have a win on the road against a Big East team and are 2-0 on the season. They can now come home to two extra days of rest before taking on the Running Rebels of UNLV a week from Saturday.

Good Job Beavs! See you at home next weekend.
