2001 Football OSU vs Washington

IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A BEAVER!

Our beloved Beavers finally put one together on a perfect day for football at Reser Stadium in Corvallis. The Beavers came out fast and "FIXED" those Dawgs with a 49-24 "POUNDING" of the 8th ranked Huskies.

The Beavers came into the game a team without a identity and left the game with a complete game and a slightly better shot at getting to the post season for the third straight year.

It was a beautiful thing to watch. The Beavers came out like the Fiesta Bowl Champions that they are  and dominated the Huskies from the opening whistle. The Beavers went 72 yards in 7 plays for their first score and the lead with only 3:46 off the clock. The drive was highlighted by a 47 yard catch. Washington rallied but was held to a field goal making it 7-3 with 9:01 to in the first. ken Simonton caught a 45 touchdown pass to extend the lead to 14-3 with 6:59 to play in the first. Washington then went 31 yards in 4 plays following a Beaver fumble to make the score 14-10.

From that point on it was pretty much all Beavers. The Beavers led 35-10 at the half after a 21 outburst in the second quarter that had drives of  ... 9 plays for 80 yards, 3 plays for 24 yards and 12 plays 71 yards.

Washington scored first in the third quarter closing the gap to 35-17 but the Beavers came right back with a 11 play, 76 yard drive to extend the lead back out to 25 points.

The Beavers scored first in the fourth quarter to bring them to 49 points and coasted in for the 49 to 24 final score.

Simonton finished the game with 107 yards on 29 carries. Freshman Steven Jackson finished with 79 yards on 22 carries as the Beavers ground game came alive again for the third game in a row.

Jonathan Smith had his best game of the season going 18 of 28 for 317 yards and 2 TD's with no interceptions. Smith spread the ball around completing passes to eight different receivers. Freshman Cole Clasen had two catches for 73 yards and tight end Tim Euhus had 4 catches for 34 yards.

The Beavers have no time to relax and enjoy this victory. The goal is to make it to the post season and they need to get ready for their game next Saturday at home with Northern Arizona. The Beavers cannot afford a let down next week if they want to keep hopes alive. The Beavers final game is Dec. 1st on National TV with the Ducks to, perhaps, decide the bowl futures of both teams.
