2001 Football OSU vs Washington JOIN WITH ME IN SAYING...WE HATE THE DAWGS! The Oregon State University Men's Football team will take on the much hated (but respected) Washington Huskies at 12:35 on Saturday at Reser Stadium in Corvallis. The game will be televised live by Fox Sports Net.
OSU-WASHINGTON SERIES Washington leads the overall series 55-26-5, including a current winning streak of 13 games. Oregon State's last victory in the series was 21-20 at Seattle in 1985. The Beavers have lost 12 straight to the Huskies at Corvallis. OSU's last victory in Corvallis was 23-9 in 1974. Washington handed the Beavers their lone defeat last season, 33-30 at Seattle. OSU's Dennis Erickson is 1-3 (0-2 at Oregon State) as a head coach in games played against Washington. The Huskies' Rick Neuheisel is 2-0 vs. OSU and Erickson. Coming into this game, the Beavers have the “opportunity” to become the first team to have 6 losses in a season after being picked as the Sports Illustrated Pre-season #1. The current record of 5 losses is held by the Washington Huskies of 1985 who were upset at home 21-20 by the Oregon State Beavers. ERICKSON IN NOVEMBER Dennis Erickson is in his 16th year as a collegiate head coach. He has compiled an impressive record during the month of November. In the month of November he currently has a career mark of 42-10-1, a percentage of .802. Erickson is 5-2 (.714) in November as Oregon State's head coach. THE POLLS The Huskies are currently ranked 8th in all three of the major polls this week. The USA Today Coaches Poll, AP poll and the BCS. The Beavers are still currently 50th in the CBS top 117 poll but that has not been updated yet this week. BY THE NUMBERS (PREGAME) Washington has played 5 of its 8 games at home this season. Its only loss was on the road at then undefeated UCLA 35-13 where Washington only had 16 yards rushing. In contrast, OSU had 114 yards rushing vs UCLA. Washington has not played well on the road but well enough to win. Beating CAL 31-28 and ASU 33-31 while losing to UCLA 35-13 on the road. The Beavers have played so-so at home this year with the only impressive outing coming against Arizona 38-3. Washington had a tough time with Arizona in Seattle coming from behind to win 31-28. The Huskies have found ways to win games at the end this season while the Beavers are failing to win games at the end. Giving up 21 unanswered fourth quarter points against ASU to lose 41-24 and missing two field goals against USC in the fourth, one with 33 seconds left in regulation to take the lead, only to lose in overtime. These two 4th quarter efforts have cost the Beavers a chance at being 5-3 instead of 3-5. It could be just this 4th quarter ability to put away opponents that will hurt the Beavers the most this Saturday. THE BOTTOM LINE The Beavers defense has been playing well the last few games. If they can continue the trend and put pressure on Washington's QB then they have a chance. However, the MIA Beaver offense has got to show up for this game or else they might as well call it a day. Washington puts points on the board and the Beavers need to do the same. All the pre-season hype means nothing now. Number one or number 101 means nothing anymore. For the Beavers it is something to build on for next season. Another season with promising prospects with some great returning underclassmen. The Beavers have an outside chance, if slim, to make it to the post-season this year. But based upon past performance that does not look likely.
