FOR THE THIRD YEAR IN A ROW, IT'S A CIVIL WAR FOR THE AGES!

12-3-2010 - The last two years the Beavers had their fate in their own hands. A win in the Civil War would send them to the Rose Bowl. It did not happen. The Ducks blew out the Beavers in 2008 at Reser Stadium and then last year the Beavers lost a civil war battle 37-33 in Eugene once again watching their Rose Bowl hopes fade away.

This year there is not as much on the line for the Beavers. At 5-6(4-4) the Beavers are just hoping to make a bowl game. The Ducks on the other hand are undefeated 11-0 and ranked #1 or #2 depending upon the poll you look at. A win by the Ducks would send then to the first National Championship game for either school.

So the Beavers have something to play for after all. It has always been the custom that when someone does something nice for you that you should return the favor. Well this year the Beavers will be attempting to return the favor to the Ducks by knocking them out of the National Championship. To add even more tension to the already over hyped game. ESPN Gameday will be making their first ever appearance in Oregon State University for their popular show.

The show starts at 6am online at 7am for TV and fans may already be lining up in front of the MU to get the best possible seat. Signs will be everywhere as over 10,000 Beaver and Duck fans are expected to attend the show. Gates open at 4:30am and the weather report is for snow between 3 and 5 am. This may very well be the rowdiest gameday of all time for the ESPN crew. I hope they have a lot of security.> MORE

FINAL SCORE FROM PALO ALTO . . .
STANFORD 38 BEAVERS 0

11-28-2010 - Don't think there is anything I can add to that. Let's move on to Civil War Week. GO BEAVERS! > Post Game Stats

BEAVERS AT #6 STANFORD, CAN THEY KEEP IT GOING? WE BELIEVE!

11-27-2010 - The Beavers run through a gauntlet of top ranked teams continues today in the bay area against the #6 ranked Cardinal of Stanford. The Cardinal will be the Beavers 5th top 20 team this season and the 4th on the road.

This season has been a never ending challenge for the Beavers who played well early in the season in losing close games at Boise State and TCU. Then winning big games against Louisville Arizona St. and Arizona. After losing James Rodgers for the season in Tucson against Arizona the Beavers entered the Twilight Zone by losing 3 of their next 4 against 4 of the bottom 5 teams in the PAC-10.

But just when you think the season is over the Beavers pull off the upset at home against #20 USC in a route 36-7.

So what can we expect this week? The team that took #4 TCU to the end in Texas only to lose by 11 at the last minute? The team that went to Tucson and stole a game from then #9 Arizona? The team that dismantled #20 USC at Reser?

Or do we see the team that lost in overtime to a below average Husky team in Seattle? The team that slept their way threw a last second loss to a bad UCLA team. Or, Heaven Forbid, the team that never came to play when the woefully bad Cougars of WSU came to Corvallis and got shellacked at home 31-14.

I am sure these are the questions that Coach Riley and his staff have been asking themselves all season.>MORE

BEAVERS CRUSH #20 USC TROJANS AT RESER STADIUM 36-7

11-25-2010 - WHO WOULD HAVE THUNK IT? Honestly even though I picked the Beavers to beat USC 38-28 last saturday night in Corvallis I really did not think it was going to happen. Here was a team with loads of talent that was under performing, lacking confidence and truly in search of something positive to grab a hold of.

The Beavers had just lost three of four games during the easiest part of a difficult season schedule. Those three losses came at the hands of the three teams that currently are placed 6th, 9th and 10th in the PAC-10 standings. Washington State had not won a PAC-10 game in a year and a half. The team appeared in disarray and without leadership.>MORE

USC COMES TO RESER TODAY TO FACE DEFLATED BEAVERS

11-20-2010 - Not sure how I want to look at this game today. It has been a tough week dealing with my emotions. On one hand I am a Beaver for life and always want to think my Beavers can win any game if they do the right things. On the other hand I have to be honest with my feelings and those feelings are " This team is done".

Four weeks ago the Beavers had just returned from Tucson with an impressive win over #9 Arizona on the road to bring their record to 3-2. The next four games looked to be the easiest part of a schedule that is a nightmare of a schedule with six ranked teams. Four of those on the road. Now the Beavers faced Washington, CAL, UCLA and WSU. All 4 teams at the bottom of the PAC-10 conference.>MORE

DISASTER ON DAD'S WEEKEND!

11-15-2010 - Dad's weekend 2010 was shaping up to be a lot of fun. I came to Corvallis with the expectation of seeing a Beavers win and having a fun weekend with my daughter. We went to an old, although changed, hangout of mine from my college days for dinner. The pizza at Woodstock's was everything I remembered it to be and I am still impressed with the guy standing behind the counter tossing pizza dough into the air. Granted it is not the same small pizza place it was in the 1970's. Gone is the long narrow pizza parlor with the cramped seating. The new woodstock's is large and spacious but the pizza is just as good as I remember.

My daughter and I proceeded to the women's Civil War Volleyball game vs the Ducks. As a parent of a current all-conference volleyball player, I am impressed with the power of the D1 college game. Those ladies crush the ball at the net and hit serves that dive straight down. It was fun to watch even though the Beavers lost to the Ducks, it was a fun night. I was even able to find my twitter buddy Nicole at the game.

Saturday morning started well. I won an item at the AGD auction and had a good time talking with other dads. My new Dad's weekend sweatshirt is pretty cool. I enjoyed the breakfast that AGD's served. It was a good Dad's breakfast with pastries, fruit and bagels. A good start to a game day that is for sure. I was ready to watch my Beavers dismantle the hapless Cougars. My wife, a Cougar alum, even conceded that her Cougars could not win the game on Saturday.> MORE

OH MY GOSH! BEAVERS LOSE AT UCLA 14-17

11-8-2010 - TBC

ON THE ROAD AGAIN! BEAVERS AT UCLA

11-6-2010 - The Beavers travel to UCLA this week to face a UCLA team that is hungry for a win. This is a game that most of us, including me, expect the Beavers to win. But this season is shaping up to be the season of expect the unexpected. Just go back a few weeks to Husky Stadium when the Beavers went into Seattle expecting to win a game and ended up playing their worst game of the season and losing in double overtime to the Huskies.

We must remember the Ryan Katz, although talented is still only a sophomore. A team that can come up with schemas that can confuse him has a real good chance to stop the Beavers passing game and force them to beat us on the ground. Or worse yet. Completely shut down the running game and force Katz to beat them through the air.

Then there is the Rose Bowl syndrome. A lot of Oregon States young roster of players are from southern California. To them the Rose Bowl is a dream to play in and they can easily get over hyped before the game and play out of control early. Katz is a So. Cal. native. Will his nerves get the better of him today in the Rose Bowl? We will see.

No matter how good or bad UCLA is I always fear going into the Rose Bowl and playing them. UCLA has given the Beavers tough games the last ten years in So. Cal. and also in Corvallis. If the Beavers heads are in the clouds today it will be another bad road trip for the Beavers. Another loss to a PAC-10 team with a losing record will pretty much seal the Beavers fate this year. It will be difficult to come back in the last 4 games with Stanford and Oregon still on the schedule. This is a must win for the Beavers.> More

BEAVERS REBOUND FROM LOSS BEAT CAL 35-7

HOMECOMING 2010! BEAVERS VS CAL BEARS

10-30-2010 - It's a cold and rainy day at Reser Stadium today as the Beavers play host to the Cal Bears on the Saturday before Halloween. The Beavers will be wearing orange jerseys with black pants today which has become a halloween tradition with the Beavers.

The cold and rainy weather will hopefully be an advantage to the Beavers. As we all know Beavers like the wet weather where as Bears generally go into hibernation when the weather turns cold. Lets hope that fact of nature holds true today for the Beavers.

This game along with the rest of the games this season has become a must win for the Beavers after the disappointing loss to a Washington Huskies team that should have been no match for the Beavers two weeks ago.

The lose to the Huskies in what was determined to be the start of the weaker part of the schedule put a damper on the improved play of late by the Beavers.

Now what? Many questions will come out of that loss. How will the three inceptions by Katz affect his confidence this week? Can Brandon Hardin improve his play at the corner spot or should that position be given to another player? Can the Beavers get the running game going after 6 games of below average performances? > More

HEARTBREAKING LOSS IN DOUBLE OVERTIME, BEAVERS LOSE TO HUSKIES 34-35

10-18-2010 - TBC

#24 BEAVERS PUT MORE THEN ONE STREAK ON THE LINE VS WASHINGTON IN SEATTLE

10-15-2010 - I love this game. Granted I have not been to all the PAC-10 schools for a game but I love going to Husky Stadium for an OSU vs UW game. Beautiful setting for a stadium right on Lake Washington. It also has one of the best ways to get to a game of any school around.

If you go over to the Ballard locks, just behind Chinooks Restaurant. You can take the Husky Rooter Boat from there to the Stadium and back after the game. Buy your tickets in advance online because it fills up for every game.

There is always a fair amount of the visiting teams fans on board this double decker sight seeing boat with bars upstairs and down. Just a great way to get to and from the game and avoid all the traffic. After the game make sure you have reservations at Chinooks for dinner because the food is good.

On the other hand Husky Stadium is kind of a dump and the visitors section in the west end zone is a mile away from the field. Hopefully the UW will come through with their plans to lower the playing field of Husky Stadium and remove the track in order to add more seats. That may put the west end a little bit closer to the field. > More

GIANT KILLERS TAKE SHOW ON THE ROAD, DEFEAT #9 ARIZONA 29-27

10-11-2010 - TBC

BEAVERS TRAVEL TO ARIZONA TO FACE #9 WILDCATS

10-9-2010 - Can our road schedule get any tougher. Lets see... First it was #6 TCU in Dallas. Then it was #3 Boise St. in Boise. Now today we have #9 Arizona in Tucson. Six weeks, 5 games, 3 road games, all against top 10 teams. I do not believe there is or has been a tougher start to any schedule in Beavers history or for that matter any D-1 school. I challenge another school to have this tough a schedule this early in the season.

I mean really, this schedule is crazy. And after this week it does not really get that much easier as the PAC-10 this year is as strong 1-9 as it has ever been. Even though USC is not picked to be a top performer they are still USC and the players they had are still there. Next week the Beavers travel to UW to face a Husky team that is very tough and fired up this year to have a big season for Jake Locker's last season at UW. I mean how long has that guy been playing ball at Washington? Like ten years?

I mean, who would ever think saying that the next 4 games would be the easiest on the schedule. At Washington, CAL, at UCLA and WSU.

Then after that comfortable stretch of games (ya right) the Beavers then run the gauntlet again with #26 USC at home, at #16 Stanford and #3 Oregon at home for the Civil War.

That will be 4 top ten teams this season, 3 of those on the road. WOW! All I can say is Riley really has a big job on his hands with a sophomore quarterback and make shift defense. > More

BEAVERS BEAT ASU BUT DEFENSE CANNOT MAINTAIN BIG LEAD TO THE END

10-4-2010 - TBC

HOME SWEET HOME - BEAVERS FACE ARIZONA ST. AND DENNIS ERICKSON

10-2-2010 - Home Sweet Home is probably what the Beavers are thinking this week after another tough road loss at #3 Boise State last Saturday in which star wide receiver James Rodgers was the victim of a head to head blow by BSU safety Winston Venalbe. That blow gave James a concussion and sent him to the bench for the remainder of the game. The Beavers now say it is a game time decision whether James will play in todays game with ASU.

Most teams can absorb the loss of a single player. But when that player is responsible for approx. 40% of your offense then it becomes a major problem. Now the Beavers may have to face the Sun Devils without their favorite target with an offense that is ranked 113th in the nation in total offense with James Rodgers.

If you think that is a problem the Beavers have bigger issues. The Beavers defense is ranked 108th in the nation for total defense averageing 458.3 yards given up per game.

The problem with the Beavers defense is two fold. The defensive line is not putting any pressure on opposing quarterbacks and the defensive secondary is getting beaten badly allowing 253 yards per game. Last week at BSU, Beaver cornerback Brandon Hardin was repeatedly beaten by Boise State receivers.

It's a case of the chicken and the egg. What do you fix first? The D-line putting more pressure on the QB will force poorer throws that could result in turnovers. But if the secondary does not close down the coverage on receivers, the QB having less time to throw may not help much. It's time for the Beavers defense to finally step up this week and play like Beaver defenses of old. Fly to the ball with abandon and put constant pressure on the QB and receivers.>More

ESPN GAMEDAY COMES TO BOISE FOR OSU - BSU NATIONALLY TELEVISED GAME

9-25-2010 - OK Beaver Nation, the time is now for our Beavers to put some demons behind them. What are those demons?

  1. The month of september - Oregon State is 3-12 for road games played prior to Oct.1 since 2000. The wins came against New Mexico St., Temple and UNLV.
  2. The Smurf Turf. - The Beavers are 0-2 on the blue turf of Bronco Stadium. Although this year the Beavers came prepared for the Blue Turf by painting their practice field in Corvallis Bronco Blue .Watch
  3. Nationally Televised Games - The Beavers have not done well on national TV against ranked teams early in the season.

Today the Beavers come into a Bronco Stadium that has never before seen this type of pregame hype. ESPN's Gameday Crew visited BSU for their weekly Saturday morning show. 13,205 fans showed up for the teleccast which started at 5am Mountain Time in Boise.

The Beavers do have one thing going for them. They have a history of being "Giant Killers". The Beavers have beaten 3 top 3 teams in the last 5 years and a few more back in the 1960's when the Beavers got the name of Giant Killers. Can the Beavers do it again?>More

BEAVERS TAKE BIG LEAD IN 3RD QUARTER ONLY WIN HOLD ON FOR 7 POINT WIN OVER LOUISVILLE

9-20-2010 - TBA

BEAVERS WELCOME LOUISVILLE FOR 2010 HOME OPENER

9-18-2010 - Good Morning Beaver Nation. I am very late with this today as I have only 45 minutes left to write this. I will try to get these done in a more timely manner in the future but work gets in the way from time to time.

I believe that the Beavers will be very fired up for this game and that Ryan Katz will have improved lightyears from his experience at Cowboys Stadium and the extra week of preparation. The Beavers are 20 point favorites in this game but Louisville brings a talented team to Reser Stadium. I expect Louisville to struggle with 3 primary things. >More

2010 BEAVER FOOTBALL SEASON OPENS SATURDAY IN COWBOYS STADIUM vs TCU

9-2-2010 - The new look 2010 #24 ranked OSU football ball team is heading to Dallas Texas as I write this to open the 2010 college football season on the road at the $1.5 billion Cowboys Stadium. Their opponent is #6 ranked TCU Horned Frogs.

The Horned Frogs are coming off a 12-0 regular season record and a 17-10 loss to the Beavers upcoming opponent Boise State in the 2010 Fiesta Bowl and finished the 2009 season ranked #6. Although TCU lost they dropped several balls during the game that could have easily turned the game into a win.> More

Can Oregon Support Two Marquee Universities?

Part 1 Today, Part 2 Tomorrow

1-11-2010 - Today I start a 2 part series asking the question “Can Oregon Support Two Marquee Universities and what is Oregon States Future?

As a preface to this post let it be known (if you don't already know this) that I am a true blue, bleed orange Oregon State University FANATIC! I love my Beavers no matter what. I hope for the day when all Oregon State athletic teams can be on the national scene. That we have facilities that rival any in the nation. For our teams to be playing for championships regularly and for everyone to want to be a part of Beaver Nation..>Blog

Part 2

1-14-2010 - So how does Oregon State University change the current status quo within the State of Oregon?

All 4 of the universities discussed are nationally known and respected in their own right but if you were to go around the nation and ask people to name one college from each state the answer you will receive will be Oklahoma and Oregon.

Pete Carroll to Seahawks, Mike Riley Signs Contract Extension

1-11-2010 - Pete Carroll made it official that he is leaving the USC Trojans and going back into the NFL to coach the Seattle Seahawks. Reports say the Carroll will have control over player personnel decisions and will make a reported 35 million dollars over the next 5 years.

With the news the Pete Carroll was leaving USC rumors were that USC wanted Mike Riley from Oregon State as their new head coach. This is a worry since USC can play Coach Riley much more then Oregon State can afford to. Late last night it was announced by Bob Decarolis that he had signed Mike Riley to a three year contract extension that will make Riley the Beavers head football coach through the 2019 season. The contract also states that a year will be added to the contract for every bowl appearance making Riley the Beavers coach until he wants to retire basically. Good job Bob. I for one am excited to know that a person of character will be in charge of OSU Football program for many years to come.

Thanks Mike, I look forward to watching your teams for many years to come.

Beavers Win Last MBB Civil War at Mac Court

1-10-2010 - For the last 16 years the Oregon State Men's Basketball program just could not find a way to win in Eugene. But on Saturday night in what was the final Men's Basketball Civil War game to played in the historic Mac Court at the University of Oregon. The underdog Beavers pulled off a huge upset by defeating the first place Ducks 64-57 in a game in which the Beavers never trailed.

The Beavers withstood several runs by the Ducks and in the end went 4 for 4 from the line late to seal the deal and win the 332nd edition of the Men's Basketball Civil War.

Thanks in part to the Beavers struggling the last 20 years in basketball the Ducks now hold a 85-70 advantage in the series that was once dominated by the Beavers back in the seventies and eighties.

Now the Beavers face the task of trying to win more games by hosting the Arizona schools this week in Corvallis. The Beavers are currently 9th in the Pac-10 with a record of 7-8 (1-2). Arizona is 8-8 (2-2) and ASU is 12-5 (2-2). This will be a good opportunity for the Beavers to get two big home wins in conference and move up in the standings.

BEAVERS LOSE UGLY, COLD & WINDY GAME TO BYU

1-5-2009 - Yes I know it has been nearly two weeks since the Las Vegas Bowl game but I have a good reason for not writing this till now. . . . . The Dog ate my homework??. . . . . I have fallen and I cannot get up?. . . . Ummmm It's my wife's fault ! That will get me in trouble for sure.

The truth of the matter is that I was left so dismayed by how we played BYU that I could not wrap my mind (what little I have left according to my wife) around what I was seeing on the field two weeks ago. Terms like Horrible, Ghastly, Unbelievable come to mind. It was just flat bad..>More

LAS VEGAS BOWL 2009 IS TODAY, OSU vs BYU

12-22-2009 - The 2009 Las Vegas Bowl is today at 5pm PST. The Beavers will be playing the Cougars of BYU. For the 4th year in a row the Beavers have finished the PAC-10 Standings in 3rd place or better but this may be one of their most difficult bowl game match ups in that time span. And that is saying a lot since the Beavers have played teams like Missouri and Pittsburgh in the Sun Bowl. Both of those teams had BCS aspirations early in the season and so did BYU. But BYU brings something to the table that the other two did not. A head coach who played at Oregon State and coached for the Beavers in 95 and 96. BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall was also a member of the Beavers football team the last time the Beavers played BYU in 1986. The Beavers won that game in Provo 10-7 and Mendenhall made 4 tackles in that game.>More

BEAVERS FALL SHORT OF ROSES IN 113TH CIVIL WAR

12-9-2009 - In what will become an instant classic of Civil War football games. The Beavers came up inches short of fulfilling 45 years of hopes and dreams once again. It has taken me a few days to overcome the disappointment of losing the Rose Bowl for the second year in a row. Now with Bowl Selection being made and the Ducks going to the Rose Bowl and Beavers once again did not get to go to the Holiday Bowl in San Diego. And we were prevented from attending the Sun Bowl due to their no repeat clause much like two years ago when the Beavers dropped all the way to the Emerald Bowl. The Beavers ended up in the Las Vegas Bowl.>More

THE 113TH CIVIL WAR IS JUST 3 DAYS AWAY

11-30-2009 - In just three days the biggest and most important game in Civil War History will be played at Autzen Stadium in Eugene, Oregon. Why is it the biggest and most important? Because for the first time ever the winner of the Civil War game is guaranteed a spot in the Rose Bowl.

The hype has been big to date but as this day has gone along you can just feel things starting to really ramp up. For me it has been a difficult day to concentrate on work and have spent most of my day checking the blogs and twitter posts on the Beavers press conference. And the hype is only going to get bigger the closer we get to kickoff, which at this time is only 2 days and 20 hours away.>More

BEAVERS WIN SETS UP A CIVIL WAR FOR ALL TIME

11-22-2009 - On Saturday the Beavers went into cold and windy Pullman Washington and ran all over the depleted Cougars of Washington State. Final score Beavers 42, Cougars 10.

Quizz Rodgers tied a OSU single season rushing TD record with his 19th TD of the season tieing him with Ken Simonton and Steven Jackson. Rodgers also rushed for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns on 24 carries moving him into second place in the PAC-10 in rushing with 1313 yards.>More

BEAVERS IN PULLMAN TO FACE 1-9 COUGARS

11-21-2009 - The 7-3(5-2) Beavers are in Pullman Washington to face the 1-9 (0-7) Cougars of Washington State University. On the face of things you look at this game and think "Wow, should be a blowout. Yawn). But in fact this is one of the biggest games of the year for the Beavers. If the Beavers can take care of business in Pullman today, the Beavers will go into the Dec. 3rd game with the Ducks in a tie for second place and potentially holding (once again) a chance for the Rose Bowl in the palm of their hands.>More

BEAVERS GIVE NICE GIFT TO DADS, BEAT HUSKIES 48-21

11-16-2009 - It was a Great Day to be a Beaver as is most any day. But this last Saturday was even better then most for me as it was my first Dad's Weekend as a Dad to an OSU Student and the second reason is that the Beavers ended beating those stinking Huskies even worse then I had predicted. Combine those to facts together with near perfect late fall weather and you have a very memorable day for me and for Beaver Nation.

It was my first Dad's Weekend as a parent of an OSU student and it turned out to be a very memorable one for me for several reasons. First off my daughter and I had a great time together. I could tell she was nervous about what to do with me for two whole days, but with a little help from friends she did a great job of entertaining her dad. Add to that the fact that I got to go back to the building that once was home to my fraternity and walk through the house was a real treat. I also was more then amazed to find at the house that night another dad of a student who is now a member of the new frat occupying that house. This dad was an old fraternity member of mine from the 70's. We enjoyed talking about the old days for a couple hours while the kids did their own thing. It was a great weekend and I am looking forward to seeing my daughter at thanksgiving.>More

BEAVERS HOST WASHINGTON FOR DAD'S WEEKEND MUST WIN GAME

11-12-2009 - This weekend, Nov. 13-15, 2009 will be a very special weekend for this Beaver Fan. Since 1965, when my older brother first entered Oregon State I have been attending games and events at Oregon State. I have attended games as a young man, a student and as an alumni. I have been to Dad's weekends as the little brother and I have been to Dad's weekends as a student. But this weekend, for the first time, I will be attending Dad's weekend as a DAD!

My brother and I talked many times over the last 20 years or so about how it would be great if our kids could attend Oregon State as we did. How much fun it would be to be the DAD of an Oregon State student. Now I get that chance. My oldest daughter had the opportunity to go to other schools and play softball. I encouraged her to take those offers and follow her dream to play college softball . But when it came time to make that choice she choose Oregon State over those other schools and this weekend I couldn't be prouder to be an OSU DAD.>More

BEAVERS MEN'S BASKETBALL 2009 STARTS TODAY

11-13-2009 - The Dual in the Desert will be where the 2009/2010 Men's Basketball season will begin. The Beavers have traveled to Lubbock, Texas this week to play in the Dual in the Desert Tournament to open their season. The Beavers first game will be against Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Not to be confused with "The" Texas A&M. The Beavers have played TAMCC once before in 1999 in Corvallis. The Beavers won that contest 82-70.

TAMCC is picked to contend for the Southland Conference title this year and return most of their team from last year when they won 18 games. This matchup should favor the Beavers who also return many key players from last seasons CBI Championship team.

The next two games of the tournament will be first time meetings between Oregon State and South Dakota and Texas Tech. South Dakota is starting their second year at D1 and Texas Tech is a member of the Big12 conference and is picked to finish 9th in preseason polls. Texas Tech is coached by Pat Knight, son of college basketball legend Bobby Knight.>More

BEAVERS TAKE DOWN #20 CAL 31-14

11-9-2009 - The Oregon State Beavers went into CAL on Saturday and Sean Canfield put on another exhibition of his skills while Jaquizz Rodgers was shut down most of the game. The Beavers defeated #20 (BCS) CAL 31-14 in front of 56,000+ at Memorial Stadium. In doing so the Beavers have moved themselves back into contention for the PAC-10 conference title but will need help from others if the Beavers hope to get back to the Rose Bowl for the first time in 45 years.

Sean Canfield was pinpoint accurate for most of the game going 29-39 for 342 yards, 2 touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown and 1 interception. Canfields performance on Saturday kept him on top of the PAC-10 in yards per game with 264.6 just ahead of next weeks opponent Jake Locker (244.8).>More

BEAVERS IN BAY AREA FOR SHOWDOWN WITH CAL

11-5-2009 - The next 4 games for the Beavers will determine how much of a success this season will be. For Oregon State the standard that success is measured by has changed in the last 11 years. Today, success for Oregon State is 8 or more wins per season and contending for a PAC-10 title every year. The programs success is also determined, like it or not, by how successful the team down the road is doing. This year, for the Beavers to consider this season a success and to stay on track to be considered a top team in the PAC-10 conference, the Beavers need to win at least 3 of their next 4 games.

With Oregon in first place and undefeated in conference play, a win in Eugene will be difficult at best. Cal on the other hand has struggled with good teams and is currently tied with the Beavers at 3-2 in conference. So a win in Strawberry Canyon this Saturday is the best option for the Beavers to get a win between the two teams. The other 2 remaining games have the Huskies coming to Corvallis and the Beavers going to WSU. The Huskies game will be a tough game but the Beavers should win that one and WSU is just plain bad so that game should be a route.>More

BEAVERS WIN IS SCARY ON HALLOWEEN AT RESER

10-30-2009 (from our blog) - The Beavers played what I call a pretty ugly game. The offense sputtered for most of the game but came through when the game was on the line to pull out a victory over UCLA 26-19. But we were a penalty call and a drop interception away from losing the game.

The offensive once again moved the ball in the first half but could only manage one touchdown and three field goals. The defense played well again in the first half, holding UCLA to no points and sending the Beavers into the halftime locker room with a 16-0 lead.

But once again the Beavers defense did not show up to play in the second half. The Beavers gave up a field goal and two late touchdowns to UCLA and allowed them to tie the game at 19-19 with just over two minutes to play. This is the eighth time in eight games that the Beavers defense has given up two many points late in games and brings you to consider that this team just does not have what it takes to hold other teams down. For the first time in many years the Beavers are lacking a shut down defense and must go out and outscore their opponents.>More

IT'S A HALLOWEEN HOMECOMING FOR THE BEAVERS!

10-30-2009 - This Saturday night is Halloween. A favorite night for any true Beaver fan. After all, Halloween is all about Orange and Black. I cannot wait to see what the Beaver fans will be wearing tomorrow at the game. I am sure there will be more then a few that will look something like the fans on the right. I will have to make a trip to the Beaver store on my way down to see if there is anything strange I can pick up to wear.

It is also homecoming for our Beaver alumni (myself included) and a time to remember the great times we had in school and the friends we made there. I had a great time in my 5 years at OSU. Had the opportunity to play golf for the Beavers and made many great friends who I stay in contact with still today. >More

Beavers Offense Puts on a Show, But the Defense Can't Stop USC

10-26-2009 - The Oregon State offense put on a real show Saturday night in Los Angeles. The Beavers scored 7 times and missed a chip shot field goal that could have been eight scores while USC only scored on 6 possessions. But in the end it was once again USC that went home with the win and left the Beavers wondering, what if?> More

History in the Making as Beavers Travel to USC

10-24-2009 - On September 16th, 1960 an Oregon State College football team did something that has not been done since. They beat USC in Los Angeles 14-0.

The top songs for the week of Sept. 16th were Johnny Burnette, "You're Sixteen" and "It's Now or Never" by Elvis Presley. The movie "Psycho" was just hitting the movie screens. Dwight D. Eisenhower was President of the United States. The United States had not yet entered the Viet Nam War. The Dallas Texans beat the Oakland Raiders 34-16..>More

Beavers Win! 38-28 Over Stanford

10-11-2009 - Gotta Love Football. Beavers beat Stanford 38-28 on Saturday night. Quizz goes off for 189 yards and 4 TD's. More Coming later today.

Man a busy week of work. I hate it when work takes time away from my Beavers. But there are bills to pay so we must do what we must do.

It was a great game last week for the Beavers on offense and also on defense at least for two quarters as the Beavers jumped out to a 31-7 lead at halftime. It was the Beavers best half of play this season. Quizz goes for career high in yards and touchdowns and many other players have big games for the Beavers. Good Job guys.>More

First Place Stanford Cardinal Come to Corvallis

10-9-2009 - The 4-1 (3-0 pac-10) Stanford Cardinal come to Corvallis this Saturday to play a 4pm game against our Beavers 3-2 (1-1 pac-10). The Cardinal are a much improved team for 2009 with victories over Washington State, San Jose State, Washington and UCLA. Their only loss was on the road at Wake Forest 17-24.

Granted, Stanford has played some questionable competition thus far but they are convincing many people that they will be a threat this year in the PAC-10 and will play a role in determining the champion in this conference.

Since 2000 Stanford is only 2-6 against the Beavers and 4-8 in the last 12 meetings.>More

Beavers Dominate the Sun Devils

10-5-2009 - OK well first off I want to somewhat apologize for my temper tantrums during the game on twitter. I was going off on the Beavers in the second half. Most of it was beer induced and some of it was somewhat justified. But in the end the Beavers won the game and that is what counts. I was gone all day Saturday coaching my daughters softball team and when I finally got home and turned the game on it was 14-3 Beavers. From what I understand James Rodgers had some good returns and several other Beavers contributed to the early success. But it was turnovers that cost ASU early and the Beavers turned those into points. >More

Struggling Oregon State Travels to Tempe to Face ASU

10-2-2009 - A struggling Oregon State Football team must now go on the road in search of a victory and more importantly, an identity. The Beavers 2-2 (0-1 PAC-10) face an Arizona State team that is has two victories over a couple of cupcakes and a near miss loss on the road at Georgia 17-20. It is this game at Georgia that perhaps the real Sun Devil team showed up to play and nearly came home with a win. This may seem on the outside like a task that is within reach of the Beavers. But look at one simple fact. As good as Beaver team have been the last 10 years, note this. Oregon State has not won a game against ASU at ASU since 1969. The Beavers have lost 16 consecutive games at Sun Devil Stadium (not counting the Fiesta Bowl Victory). And the Beavers come into Tempe on a 2 game losing streak, having given up 10 sacks in the last two games and 15 on the season.>More

Beavers Lose to Arizona 37-32

9-28-2009 - Another disappointing loss this week for the Beavers. The Beavers lost to the Arizona Wildcats 37-32 on Saturday afternoon in Corvallis and this loss may be a dagger in the back to the hopes of this team having a successful season. Arizona was a team the Beavers should beat, especially at home. The Beavers failed to stop the Arizona passing game allow Foles of Arizona to go25-34 for 254 yards passing.

For the second week in a row the Beaver defense failed to get a sack of the quarterback allowing the QB to rome freely in the backfield with time to find an open receiver. For the second week in a row the Beavers offensive line gave up 5 sacks and allowing the opposing defense far to many hits on Canfield and giving him no time in the pocket to find open receivers. This after Offensive Line Coach Mike Cavanaugh noted that players just need to step up and play better.>More

Beavers Face Arizona at Reser

9-25-2009 - The Beavers face the Arizona Wildcats this Saturday and are in need of a victory after last weeks heartbreaking loss to Cincinnati at Reser. The Cincinnati game exposed many weak areas on the Beavers team the Coach Riley and his staff will have to work hard it to improve or teams will see these weaknesses and what Cincinnati did to expose them and do something similar. Those weaknesses include, Sean Canfield, Offensive Line, Defensive Secondary and Defensive Line. Lets take a moment to look at each of these areas.>More

Beavers Fail to Score Touchdowns, Lose to Bearcats 28-18

9-23-2009 - The Oregon State offense was inside the Cincinnati 20 yard line 4 times last Saturday afternoon and came away with 1 touchdown and 3 field goals. This fact, more then any other on that day was the reason the Beavers could not come from behind to defeat Cincinnati. It was an exciting game for most of the game. The Beavers took an early lead when they failed twice in the first quarter to score touchdowns and took a 6-0 lead after the first quarter.>More

#17 Cincinnati Comes to Corvallis to Face the #24 Beavers

9-18.2009 - OK Beaver Fans, we have been asking for that big east coast program to come to Corvallis for years and now we have what we asked for. It may not be a Michigan, Notre Dame or Texas, but if you know your college football and are not just some wannabe who thinks those are the only programs in the world. Then you know this IS a big time game..>MORE

DEFENSE STRUGGLES IN SECOND HALF BUT KAHUT & THE BEAVERS BRING HOME A VICTORY FROM LAS VEGAS

9/14/2009 - Man oh man! Is it going to be another one of those kind of years. If so, I am not sure my heart will be able to take it. In the first half I am thinking, "Ok, what's is up with the offense? The defense is playing well but where is the offense and what is up with Kahut?". Then when the Beavers come out in the second half and score on their first possession I think, "OK here we go, defense is playing well and now the offense is finally got it going.". Then the defense seems to forget how to play and lets UNLV go 100 yards in a kickoff return and 5 plays for the TD. ARGHHHHHH!!

Then the Beavers come right back again and score on a 7 play 75 yard drive to go up 20-7. Alright, calming down now. Beavers hold, things are in control, we have a 2 td lead and the ball with 6 minutes to go in the third quarter. I feel pretty good. Whew! Fourth quarter starts and we are still up 13 and have the ball. Feeling pretty good right now. Got it under control, we are going to roll on to victory, RIGHT???>More

BEAVERS TRAVEL TO SIN CITY

9-11-2009 - The Oregon State University Football team travels to "Sin City" today to face Mountain West Conference Title Hopeful UNLV in a 8pm game Saturday night at Sam Boyd Stadium. The expected temperature at game time is 90 degrees.

The Beavers are coming off a solid performance in their opener vs Portland St. 34-7 where the Rodgers brothers once again dominated the offensive stats. The two brothers scored all 4 touchdowns for the Beavers and accounted for all offensive yards in the first quarter. Quizz had 103 yards on 16 carries and also had 4 receptions for 32 yards in a half and one play. James Rodgers caught two balls for 95 yards and carried the ball 2 times for 23 yards.>More

BEAVERS WIN SEASON OPENER IN EASY FASHION

9-7-2009 - OK, now that I am back from camping up in the mountains it's time to breakdown the Beavers game vs Portland State. But before that I just want you to know how cool those GPS maps are. We took a route down to the game that my first thought was, "you have got to be kidding me". But you know what, it was a nice drive with absolutely no traffic and made the trip to Reser and back much more enjoyable then battling traffic on I-5. The problem is that it won't work from home so I will have to try to find faster ways to the game..>More

2009 SEASON OPENER THIS SATUDAY AT 11:30AM, Portland St. vs Oregon St.

9-3-2009 - This Saturday the Oregon State Football Program starts its 2009 season at home vs Portland State University and their famous head coach Jerry Glanville. Rumor has it that Jerry has reserved two tickets for Elvis at Reser Stadium for this Saturday.

The Beavers come into this game a 28 point favorite but the game has many aspects to it that I feel will make it closer then that. .>More

What a Great Day in Beaver Land!

8-23-2009 - Saturday was as close to a perfect day in Beaverland as one could ask for. About the only thing that might have made it better was to win (my team not the Beavers)

You see Saturday I played, along with my brother and two great beaver friends of mine in the 24th Annual Paul Valenti Varsity O Golf Scrimmage at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis. > More

One Month to Football !
Hip, Hip, Hooray!

8-24-2009 - It's less then one month before the 2009 Oregon State University Football Season begins and I am pretty excited for another season to start. And this season I have another reason to be excited about the start of another school year at OSU. My oldest daughter will be a freshman at OSU this year and I am a very proud papa. Recently found out that the entire freshman football team is in her dorm so you players had better behave yourself. I was a student there once so I know how it goes. Don't want to have to send my buddy "Sal" down to send a message. > More

BEAVERS ARE CHAMPIONS OF THE CBI TOURNAMENT!

4-8-2009 - Coach Craig Robinson and the Oregon State Men's Basketball program took a big first step in the resurrection of basketball at Oregon State the other day in El Paso, Texas by winning the College Basketball Invitational Tournament. The Beavers who finished the PAC-10 Season 13-17 were invited to play in the CBI based partly upon the fact that Craig Robinson had coached in the tournament the previous year and enjoyed the experience. Once in the tournament the Beavers wasted no time in sweeping past three teams (Houston, Vermont and Stanford) all of which had 20 wins in 2008 to advance to the final vs UTEP. The Championship Series was 2 out of 3 games and was played at UTEP. The Beavers captured their first ever posted season basketball championship with a 81-73 victory in the third and final game and finished the season 18-18.

The victory for the Beavers and the crowds that showed up in Corvallis for the post season games brought back much of the excitement that Gill coliseum had seem in it glory days of the 70's and 80's when the Beavers were contenders every year.

Now the expectation level has been raised for the upcoming 2009 season. The Beavers will no doubt get a better recruiting class and the fans will be back to a certain extent. Can the Beavers take the next step in 2009 and have a winning record in conference play? Can they make it back to the NIT or the even the NCAA tournaments? Only time will tell but the 2008 Beaver Basketball season will be one to remember for the excitement it brought back to Gill and for what it might mean for the future.

GO BEAVERS!

BEAVERS ARE THE CHAMPIONS OF THE 75TH SUN BOWL!!!

12-31-2008 - The Oregon State Beavers are the Champions of the 75th Sun Bowl game and will no doubt be in the record books of the Sun Bowl for some time to come. The Beavers defense shut out the Pitt Panthers 3-0 in the lowest scoring game in the Sun Bowl since 1940 and the Panthers to 178 total yards and only 10 first downs on the day while sacking the Pittsburgh quarterbacks 5 times.>More

OREGON STATE vs PITTSBURGH in the 75th Sun Bowl

12-29-2008 - It's Time! We are just two days away from the playing of the 75th Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX. and the Beavers are banged up in more ways then one. The latest word on Quizz is that he may play but is a game time decision and won't be 100%. James Rodgers is out. Francis has missed practices due to family issues in Florida and will be back in time to play. So basically that leaves us with one running back that has seen full practices, Ryan McCants. McCants was not effective vs the Ducks only rushing for 32 yards on 10 carries. Jeremy Francis has seen only limited action all season but I like the way he attacks the line better then McCants. So with no running game left the Beavers will be forces to the air again.> More

MY PLAN TO SOLVE THE BCS MESS

12-6-2008 - Every year people complain about how messed up the current BCS system is. How deserving teams are shut out of the BCS Bowls by the selection process. This year is not different except that we have a President Elect who has gone on record that he wants a playoff system.

Our Purpose

The Beaver Fan Site was developed to provide a forum for OSU Beaver Fans to express themselves and to receive the latest news on OSU sports from an everyday fans perspective. As a Beaver fan you know that it takes commitment from the fans as well as the players to build a successful athletic program. We as fans can show our commitment to the program through our donations to University programs, Season Ticket sales, filling the seats at games and by flying the colors whenever and wherever we can.

It is the goal of this Beavers Fan site to help build interest in the Beavers programs and to help the University in any way we can to build and maintain successful athletic programs at Oregon State University.

Although we do everything we can to support the teams at OSU, we will not hold back our opinions on the performance of teams in games. Telling it the way it is, but at the same time being supportive is the best way to build strong teams.
